YAF's First meeting

David Holthouse of the SPLC and I decided to visit the first meeting of Young Americans for Freedom. According to the Union List of events it was to begin at 7;30 pm

This is what we found at 7:45 pm.

Of course we suspected as much when Nate Sherman was sent in ahead of the rest of the group. Perhaps it would have worked not to use a YAFer with a regular column in the State News.

David and I headed downstairs and in the middle of the lobby we saw the assembled group of YAF, all four of them, sitting in the lobby of the Union.

David Holthouse approached them for an interview for his article. He was told by Kyle that YAF was going to be suing the Southern Poverty Law Center and he had been advised not to speak to them. He also claimed it was a private meeting and threatened to have the cops called.

Later the group of four scattered, with Nate Sherman, evidently the bravest of the four, coming by and taking a picture of David Holthouse.

Thinking that no one could be dumb enough to go back to their scheduled room after such an incident, I went back up to the Lake Michigan room. There YAF was in meeting.

I knocked on the door. Receiving no answer I open and asked if this was the YAF meeting. Kyle Bristow said yes and asked who I was. I identified myself. Kyle promptly said it was a private meetings and asked me to leave, which I did.

Just before he closed the door Kyle yelled "Fucking leftist". He then closed the door.

I considered making further inquiry, but figured I'd scared him (unintentionally) enough for the night.
