YAF's Anti-African American Ideology

Young Americans for Freedom claim they are not a hate group or racist in any way and are just a conservative group being harassed by leftists. They often mention the fact that their advisor, W.B. Allen, is a black man. Mr. Allen's web page and scholarly work can be found here.

However, having Mr. Allen as an advisor has not stemmed hate speech made against African Americans or activities that promote African American achievement. One must question if Mr. Allen is particularly involved in this group and its philosophy. Consider the following evidence.

The following pages come from MSU-YAF’s now defunct blog Smash Left Wing Scum

Story #1 Black Homecoming Means the Balkanization of America

On October 15 2005, YAF reported the Black Student Alliance offered a series of alternative events during homecoming week.

According to the State News the theme of the homecoming was “98/89, two important dates in MSU history. 98 represented the number of years since Myrtle Craig became the first black female graduate of MSU (Then Michigan Agricultural College) and 89 was for 1989, when students held a study-in protest outside the administration building.

YAF referred to this as “another sign of the balkanization of America”. More reasonable people might view it as a celebration of black achievement at MSU run during a time all students celebrate their pride at being part of the university.

Story 2. YAFer considers Kwanzaa to be fake and Satanic, still scarred from third grade brush with diversity

On December 26th Blog poster JM laments the holiday of Kwanzaa, considering it a “Fake Santanic (misspelling his own) Holiday” created by a godless Communist. He talks about having to participate in a holiday in third grade.

“In fact, in my third grade class we were forced to celebrate Kwanzaa (note, it's crap like that which makes this my last day in Michigan).”

JM, apparently scarred for life over the incident, then offers a way to go against Kwanzaa.

“The next time somebody says Happy Kwanzaa in front of you, throw a drink on them.”

Kevin Deanna responds in the comment section to defend JM post.

“The point is that all Christians, and white Christians in particular, don't owe any deference to the self-defined racial separatist customs of other people”

Responding to a post about throwing a drink as a felonious assault, Deanna plays off the threat of violence.

“sometimes a little "direct action" is called for. After all, we're not interested in dialogue -- we're interested in smashing left wing scum. We are interested in understanding the Left and its arguments, true -- but only so we can smash it more effectively.”

Kevin Deanna also supports the post with one of his own, mocking President Bush for sending out Kwanzaa cards along with the rest of the holiday cards the White House sends out.

Story 3: YAF believes diversity is murder

On December 22nd, 2005 a story was reported about a US Navy reservist returning from Iraq that was murdered by his wife’s teenage lover. The title of the post, “Diversity lesson taught to Young White Southerner” indicates the posters believe that because the suspects were black, that diversity is to blame. The emphasis on the victim being a white southerner goes along with YAF’s Pro-Confederate views.

The article cited, however, does not mention the race of the victim or anyone else. Only the picture of the suspects offers any evidence. It also doesn’t mention race or diversity as a factor. That addition was YAF's own.

Story 4: Pro-KKK Film ties for second, beats out Jesus, in YAF favorite right wing movie poll

On December 9th, 2005 (visible at bottom of document) YAF ran a poll on their blog to find out the favorite right wing movie of the group. We can assume by the list and title of the poll that it was for what movie represents YAF's own values. Current YAF Chair Kyle Bristow can be seen holding the sign in the picture above the poll.

On December 13th 2005 Results of the Poll came in and Birth of a Nation, a Pro-KKK film, tied for second with Braveheart. It beat out Jesus Christ, as Passion of the Christ only managed 9% and a tie at fifth place with The Patriot.

Read a review of the racism of the film or watch the film yourself on Google.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Jason Van Dyke, has himself taken several positions that show him against African Americans. Below are a series of articles from the print version of Spartan Spectator and Justice, a newspaper he published during his time at the University of Dallas.

Story 5: Jason van Dyke versus MLK Day, Kyle Bristow makes joke of MLK assassination

In the first issue of Justice, page 7, Van Dyke argues against Martin Luther King Day, outright claiming that it is a liberal rewriting of history and subtly claiming that by celebrating Martin Luther King Day and Black History month we are denying President's Day and Washington, Lincoln, and Reagan proper respect.

YAF-Watch posted an article on the issue and a commentary on how Jason Van Dyke's arguments are flawed.

On July 11, 2007 Kyle Bristow made a post on the Spartan Spectator blog, refuting some claim that a founder of YAf in the 1960's was involved in the JFK assassination. He then said that the MLK assassination was another matter entirely.

Kyle later added a disclaimer claiming the joke was satire.

Story 6: Van Dyke Supports Confederacy, Opposes Protests Against Apartheid

The Spartan Spectator ran a piece attacking the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the NAACP for there efforts to have the NAACP withhold certain tournament games from Georgia due to that's state's having the Confederate Flag emblem upon the state flag.

In a YAF-Watch article Jason Van Dyke was challenged to give his opinion on a similar action by the International Olympic Committee that banned South Africa from the Olympic games due to it's apartheid. Jason Van Dyke opposed the the ban, citing that sports organization had no business in the affair and said it was worse than the NAACP action proposed. YAF-Watch then posted part of the Olympic Charter dealing with the issue of eligibility.

From the Olympic Charter, Fundamental Principles of Olympism, Sections 4 and 5
4 The practice of sort is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practising sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which require mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity, and fair play. the organisation, administration and management of sports must be controlled by independent sports organisations.

5 Any form of discrimination with regard to a country or a person on grounds of race, religion, politics, gender or otherwise is incompatible with belonging to the Olympic Movement.
YAF-Watch wrote a commentary on YAF's pro-Confederate views, held widely in the organization. Van Dyke responded with a post supporting the Confederacy, even saying "Perhaps if the South had won the war, there wouldn't be so many problems today."

YAF-Watch pointed to the similarity of that statement to one made by Senator Trent Lott.

Story 7: Jason Van Dyke and "The Fraud of Diversity"

Jason Van Dyke ran an article in Justice sixth issue, pages 12 and 15, accusing affirmative action programs of not allowing conservatives to speak freely on campus. He alleges that unqualified minorities are the cause of conservative students having to face speech codes, saying

“Perhaps if minority students were better prepared for college and if schools would stop admitting under-qualified minorities, there would be no need to for schools to condemn “divisive” speech because these students would have the intellectual capacity to defend their own point of view”

** UPDATE January 21st, 2008**

YAF posts a video that morphs an image of Martin Luther King with Joseph Stalin

***UPDATE***
Both Kyle Bristow and Jason Van Dyke posted stories favoring a racist shirt equating Barack Obama with a monkey, a common racial slur.
